Architectural lighting for brick, stone and farmhouse elevations.
Custom low-voltage LED landscape lighting for Katy-area homes, designed for master-planned communities, big backyards and Gulf Coast weather.
Katy has grown from a rice farming town into one of the largest family suburbs in the Houston area. Most homes here sit in master-planned communities with consistent streetscapes, generous backyards and plenty of outdoor living space. Landscape lighting helps a home stand out on the street and makes the backyard usable on warm evenings.
Texas Landscape Lights designs and installs custom 12V LED systems across the Katy area, which spans Harris, Fort Bend and Waller County. We serve Cinco Ranch, Grand Lakes, Seven Meadows, Firethorne, Cane Island, Elyson, Cross Creek Ranch in Fulshear, and the historic streets around Old Town Katy. Every project starts with a free consultation and night demo, then a written proposal.
Katy homes are largely builder construction in brick and stone, with traditional, French country and Craftsman-inspired elevations in established communities like Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes. Seven Meadows and Firethorne include larger custom-style homes, while newer sections of Elyson, Cane Island and Cross Creek Ranch lean toward modern farmhouse and transitional designs with painted brick, board and batten and metal roof accents.
Stone and brick look best when grazed with light to show texture. Modern farmhouse fronts look sharp with symmetrical lighting on porch posts and gables. Since many homes on a street share similar designs, thoughtful lighting is one of the best ways to give yours its own character.

Katy sits on flat coastal prairie, so most of the trees were planted by builders and homeowners. Live oaks are the most common street and yard tree, with crape myrtles, magnolias, Drake elms, bald cypress and palms like Mexican fan palms and sabal palms. Older Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes yards now have sizable oaks, while newer communities have young trees still filling in.
For maturing oaks, we combine uplights with canopy-mounted downlights. In newer yards, we focus on the facade, entry and paths, with adjustable accents on young trees that can grow with them. Palms look striking with a single uplight close to the trunk. Our landscape lighting techniques guide explains these options.
Katy's flat terrain and clay soil mean water drains slowly, and the area near the Addicks and Barker reservoirs and Cypress Creek saw serious flooding during Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Tropical storms and summer downpours are a regular part of life here. The checklist above reflects how we design for that. Read more in protecting landscape lighting from Texas storms.
Not every Katy home is new construction. The streets around Old Town Katy and the Katy Heritage Park area include older cottages, farmhouses and ranch homes with wood siding, deep porches and big pecans and oaks. These homes look best with a lighter touch: small fixtures hidden in beds, soft light on the porch and columns, and a couple of well-placed tree lights. Older homes may also have aging outdoor outlets, so if a new circuit or outlet is needed for the transformer, that line-voltage work is handled by a licensed electrician.
In Cinco Ranch and Grand Lakes, where many homes are now 15 to 30 years old, we also see a lot of original builder lighting that has faded or failed. Converting those systems to LED and re-aiming fixtures around grown trees can bring a yard back to life without starting from scratch.
Nearly every Katy neighborhood has an HOA, and master-planned communities such as Cinco Ranch, Cross Creek Ranch, Elyson and Cane Island typically have architectural review for exterior changes. Landscape lighting is generally welcome, but some associations want a simple submission before installation. We provide a layout, fixture details and color temperature, and we keep light aimed onto your property to avoid glare toward neighbors, which is especially important on closely spaced lots.
Katy backyards often include covered patios, outdoor kitchens and pools. Good lighting extends the season by making those spaces comfortable after dark. Sunset in Katy runs from roughly 5:25 pm in early December to about 8:30 pm in late June. Use our sunset timer planner to plan schedules, and consider separate zones so the backyard can stay on for gatherings while the front follows a set schedule.
