Our Landscape Lighting Process
From the first call to the final adjustment after dark, here is exactly what happens when you work with Texas Landscape Lights.
Six steps from idea to glowing yard
Landscape lighting is a design project, so we treat it like one. Each step builds on the last, and nothing is installed until you have seen the effect and approved a written proposal.
The process is the same whether you are lighting a small front yard or a full property with a pool, long driveway and mature trees. Bigger projects simply have more to plan. If you already have a system that needs work, we follow a shorter version focused on diagnosis, repair and upgrades.
Consultation call
We start with a short conversation about your home, how you use the yard at night and what you want to change. We ask about trees, entertaining areas, safety concerns, HOA rules and budget so the visit is productive. Call (281) 704-7210 or request a quote to get started.
On-site visit and night demo
We walk the property, note power sources, soil and existing wiring, then return after dark with sample fixtures. You see uplighting, path lights and wash effects on your actual house and trees, in different color temperatures, before you commit to anything.
Custom lighting plan
We map every fixture, beam angle and wire run, size the transformer and choose controls. The plan balances architecture, trees and gardens, and safe pathways so the property reads as one design.
Written proposal
You receive a clear proposal listing fixtures, quantities, controls and scope of work. If a new outdoor outlet or circuit is needed, we note it, since that line-voltage work is handled by a licensed electrician. Price figures are spelled out in writing, so there are no surprises, and you can approve the full design or start with a first phase.
Clean installation
Our crew installs fixtures, direct-burial wire, waterproof connections and the transformer. We route around root zones and irrigation, keep trenches narrow and clean up each day. Before we leave, we test every fixture and walk you through the transformer, timer and how to make simple adjustments.
After-dark fine-tuning and follow-up
We come back at night to adjust every fixture's aim and brightness and set your timer or smart controls. After that, we check in to make sure all is well, and offer maintenance visits to keep the system looking its best.

Typical timeline
Every property is different, but these are typical durations for a residential project. Weather, permits, HOA approval and electrician availability can shift them.
| Stage | Typical duration |
|---|---|
| Consultation call | 15 to 30 minutes |
| On-site visit and night demo | About 1 to 2 hours, usually within a week of your call |
| Lighting plan and written proposal | A few days after the demo |
| Scheduling after approval | Often 1 to 3 weeks |
| Installation | 1 to 3 days for most homes |
| After-dark fine-tuning | 1 evening visit, shortly after install |
Why we finish after dark
Light behaves differently on site than on paper. A beam that looks right during installation can land too hot on a column or miss the canopy of a tree once it is truly dark. That is why the final visit happens at night, when we can see exactly what you will see from the street, the driveway and the patio. It is also when we set run times that match Texas sunsets through the seasons.

Questions & answers
How long does a typical project take?
Many residential projects go from first call to finished system in two to four weeks, and the installation itself usually takes one to three days. Larger properties, permits or electrician scheduling can extend that.
Do I need to be home for the night demo?
Yes, ideally. The demo is where you see different fixtures and effects on your own house, and your reactions guide the final design.
Will installation damage my lawn or beds?
We use narrow trenches and careful routing, then restore turf and mulch as we go. Most yards look undisturbed within days.
What happens after the system is installed?
We return after dark to fine-tune aim, brightness and timing, then follow up to make sure everything is working. Ongoing maintenance visits are available if you want them.
